Thanksgiving!
My Mom and Precious Aunt Barbara flew to Washington DC on Thanksgiving day. I drove up from Raleigh and picked them up at the airport. We had landed in the Nation's Capital for a fun filled Thanksgiving weekend. Of course we had to find somewhere to have our Thanksgiving meal. We chose this Italian restaurant after it had been recommended several times for having a decent Thanksgiving meal offering. The hotel was charging $100 a person and I put down my foot and said we weren't doing that. (I am a bit frugal and who can charge that for Turkey...it wasn't even a buffett so who knows what we would of gotten.) So we ventured to dinner at 6:00 in the evening for the last seating of this restaurant. There was one other table in the entire restaurant. Everyone else in the world as long past eating Thankgiving by this time and probably planning out the day of shopping the next day. They had a special menu and you got your choice of entree. I was so excited...truth be told I don't really like all the Thanksgiving dishes all that much. However Mom and Barb had to have turkey! Being the last diners of the night they must of been a bit short on dressing. Barb asked for more dressing, the waiter came back and said the whole kitchen staff had left but he managed to find some dressing. What he actually brought was Bernaise sauce. We just laughed. He had probably had a long day and tried to do his best. Peggy who joined us for dinner ordered a Lemon drop martini and got a glass full of lemon vodka, not your typical froo froo martini you order at many local watering holes. I think this place is stuck in the 80's. If I only could of taken a picture of the china they had on the table. I was tempted but resisited. All in all the food was fabulous just a few gliches which makes every thanksgiving unique year after year.
