Dorthea Benton Frank
She is the author I adore most when Summer arrives. Eight years ago I was in Sam's Club the day I was leaving to meet my family at the beach for the week. It was our first year doing this and going to a location unknown. It was a huge step for my family as we just didn't do this sort of thing. My Mom had flown to Atlanta to drive with Leslie and Lauren and I was meeting them at the house. Everyone else wouldn't arrive until Late Tuesday. Those first nights with just us Girls not knowing much about the area where a little spooky, how I laugh now. It is the most magical place on earth. We did have a thunderstorm one night and I had a little parachute man that got caught in the wind and stuck on the roof. I was so upset I threw a temper tanturm like a little child who just watch their balloon float away into the sky. (He finally got blown on the other side of the house and on to the ground. I rescued him and I still have him!) So on to Sam's I walked through the books and out jumped a book "Isle of Palms by Dorthea Benton Frank". Well it just happened that I was headed to Sullivans Island which is right next to Isle of Palms. So the rest is history. I have read every book she has written. They are so much fun and they talk about the area and place that exist today. If we read a new one and find a restaurant mentioned we are off to check it out. Her newest book is Lowcountry Summer it is a sequel to Plantation. You must check her out if you get a chance. I was lucky enough last night to meet her on her book tour in Raleigh. She is so funny and such a delight in person. She was born on Sullivans Island and now splits her time between the Island and New Jersey!
